Fitness Class Descriptions:

Easy ZumbaZumba GoldZumba Gold

Zumba Gold ® is a dance fitness class that will take you on a little tour of the world, while giving you a fun workout. But at Inspire Bellydance we do things differently. We teach in a lower impact, slightly slower and easier format, suitable for beginners. We teach the routines step by step, and as the term progresses, we learn more new choreographies and styles one by one. This means you’re never overwhelmed, and you can be sure you’re doing it right to reduce the chance of injury. We don't just use Latin dances, but also Bellydance, Samba, Bollywood, African and more! Real choreographies with real cultural zest.

Women of all ages, backgrounds and fitness levels are welcome; no experience is needed. Read on below for more details.

Online Gentle class for Seniors: Friday 9.30am (5 week block starts 9 October)

Niggly Knees (and other troublesome bits)

Are your knees, ankles, feet or hips giving you grief? Are you recovering from an accident or injury? Or maybe you just need a very gentle form of exercise. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy a wiggle and a giggle, plus help yourself get stronger and more mobile. This mostly seated online class will get you dancing in your chair, as well as doing exercises specifically for strength, stability and mobility.

Bellydance for FitnessThe dances will be inspired by Middle Eastern Bellydance as well as Indian, Flamenco, Latin and other dances from around the world: fun, upbeat music to keep you smiling. Depending on your personal needs and abilities, there can be standing-up options, and dancing with wrist / hand / ankle weights for those who are stronger. In our strength and rehab exercises, we'll use props like hand weights (tins of tomatoes will do!) and stretchy therabands, plus our chairs and walls. There will also be exercises to help with balance and stability, plus some stretching to ease tight muscles.

Women of all ages, backgrounds and fitness levels are welcome; no experience is needed. Please let us know the nature of your injury / condition, along with any relevant notes from your physio, so we can prepare the class appropriately.

FitnessBellydance for FitnessBellydance Fitness

Want to be stronger, more flexible and full of energy? Improve your coordination, cardio fitness, strength, flexibility and body awareness, through bellydance movement. Get ready to sweat and feel the burn!

This class is not designed to teach bellydance technique or performance skills. We have other classes for that, so why not do one of each?

Some bellydance experience is required to take this course; if you've never danced before, please join our Bellydance Fundamentals course this term to learn the basic technique, in order to move safely. Read on below for more details.

YogaYoga for BeginnersYoga Fundamentals

Yoga is for everyone - whether you've got some experience, or have never tried it before.

A regular yoga practice supports the health of your mind and body. Johara will introduce the physical aspects of yoga ('asana' or poses) alongside the philosophical, providing a well-rounded holistic foundation to yoga that builds from week to week. All ages and body types are invited to discover the mental and physical benefits that yoga can bring.

If you have done yoga in the past, these classes will consolidate your foundations and deepen your practice. Read on below for more details.

Fun, Beginner-Friendly Courses for all ages

A unique approach to Zumba Fitness that's suitable for ALL levels. Our classes follow a truly beginner- and injury-friendly format. You don't need a dance background, and you don't need to be young, fit or thin (but it's also OK if you are). All you need is the desire to have fun dancing your way around the world!

What is Zumba Gold?

Zumba® fitness is a fun dance workout based on spicy Latin and international rhythms. It's not a dance style; instead, during the class you will experience a range of music and dance styles from all over the world, plus some familiar pop songs too. Experience a taste of salsa, reggaeton, cumbia, bollywood, samba, African, hip-hop and more!

Zumba Gold takes this format and makes it lighter, so it suits all levels and ages. We simplify the moves so that it's easy to follow, take out the jumping and other tricky steps, and offer a range of options so that everyone finds what's right for them. Soon you're moving, dancing, laughing, clapping and sweating it out while having a blast.

It is NOT what you see in TV commercials or in videos. It DOES follow the same format of exercising to Latin and other rhythms, but speed and moves are slightly toned-down. These minor changes accommodate the needs of the biggest segment of the population: mature people, those who are injured, pregnant or postnatal, new to exercise, or anybody who needs, or simply prefers, a low-impact, easier-to-follow dance exercise class. What is NOT toned-down is the happy atmosphere and the FUN we have every time we get together!

How does it benefit me?

Besides enjoying yourself for an hour, Zumba Gold can help you experience better general health and well-being, stronger muscles, improved balance and coordination, and the ability to perform the activities of daily living for a long time to come. If the group or your health requires it, we can exercise sitting down. You still get a great workout and most of the benefits of the regular class. The class is designed with the abilities of each specific group in mind. (Light weights can be used to increase tone and muscle strength.)

Small, specialised classes

It's easy to get started with Rachel's beginner-friendly approach to dance fitness. Our step-by-step teaching and progressive courses make it easy to learn. Ours are small-scale, boutique classes: unlike at gyms, we don't pack fifty people into the class. Numbers are capped to make sure everyone can see the instructor and gets individual guidance. Perfect for those who are new to Zumba (or any form of dance or exercise), post pregnancy, or recovering from an injury.

Beginner? More mature? Or tried it before and found it too hard?

Don't worry, we'll make it easy! Our easy Zumba program is run as a structured course suitable for anyone, even absolute beginners who have no dance experience or don't exercise much. We take it step by step, so unlike at gyms, you won't be intimidated in your first class. Students range in age from under 10 to over 60. Rachel can modify the moves to suit your individual needs. Zumba ClassesZumba classes are different at Inspire! Bellydance because...

Of course, all our Zumba classes begin with a warm-up and end with a cool-down. In between, you'll learn simple, fun choreographies from a range of world dance styles such as salsa, merengue, reggaeton, samba and maybe even bellydance. Meanwhile, you'll improve your co-ordination and understanding of rhythm and music. The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat.

In short, if you'd like to improve your cardiovascular fitness in a dance party-like atmosphere with an international flavour, then Zumba is for you. And if you want it to be accessible and easy on the joints, then Zumba Gold is the specialty that's best for you. The addition of light weitghs with Zumba Toning makes sure you'll get stronger as well. So come along, give it a whirl and find out how much fun it is. Zumba Gold classes are on Monday 5.30pm (full) / Tuesday 12.30pm / Thursday 5.30pm (full) / Low intensity: Friday 9.30am (a lower intensity class, specifically intended for seniors or those with health issues. Class ends with some strengthening and stretching; have a chair handy.)

Yoga with JoharaYoga Fundamentals

Join Johara to explore the foundations of Yoga, from the comfort of your own home. During this course Johara will introduce both the physical aspects of yoga (asana or poses) alongside the philosophical, providing a well-rounded holistic foundation to yoga that builds from week to week.

This class is perfect for absolute beginners as well as continuing or past yoga students. Movements covered in the first series will be clearly explained allowing students to learn or build on current knowledge. New asanas (poses) will be explored helping build strength, balance and flexibility

Jo has a background in dance with a special interest in how the body moves as a whole and how the fascial system impacts breath, flow and ease of movement.

Persistent injuries and chronic pain (from both dance and life in general) were the catalysts for investigating other modalities to improve body awareness, strength, flexibility and overall health. Eventually finding Yoga in 2016, Jo hasn’t looked back. In just three years, Jo has explored a variety of styles coming to fall in love Hatha/Vinyasa flow and yin – so much so she has achieved her qualification to teach both in 2018 at Sukha Mukha Yoga.

In her Yoga teaching, she aims to combine her knowledge of body movement with traditional Yoga postures and philosophy. Joining breath and movement to quiet the mind and find ease, both on and off the mat.

What do you need?

In an ideal world! – yoga mat, 2x yoga blocks, strap/belt, chair, blanket, bolster space to lay down with arms extended either side of ears

Reality! – Yoga mat (if possible – cheap from K-mart/BigW/Target – but only if you are out shopping for food!), pillows or cushions, blanket, 2x towels, belt or scarf (non-stretch material), chair, space to lay down with arms extended either side. Potentially, a wall with clear space to lean on and also sit against.

Dates generally follow NSW Public School terms. All terms are 10 weeks unless otherwise stated. Classes continue to run on public holidays during term dates. If you're unable to make it, come to one of the other locations another night to catch up!
