Get Ready to Dance!

Now you’re all booked in, let’s make sure you’re ready to go.

Pop the details in your calendar.

Create a calendar event for your weekly class. Use the info on the website about day, time and address; set a reminder for 24 hours before, as well as 1-2 hours before (depending on your travel time etc), and make it repeat every week for 10 weeks.

What if I can’t make it one week?

Just let us know, so we don’t wait and worry about you! Preferably email us on dance@inspirebellydance.com.au, and as soon in advance as you can. Most classes happen more than once a week in different locations; but your alternative class might be a day or two before your regular class, so plan ahead if you’ll be missing a night. Some lessons are recorded; reach out for the link, so you can do it yourself at a time that suits you during the week. When you email us, we’ll reply with your options. Please always allow up to 48 hours for us to get back to you, as our admin assistant only works part-time.

Check the T&Cs

Like everything in life, our courses come with terms and conditions, which you can check again here.

Add us to your address book.

We’ll be sending useful info, what’s on, music or choreo notes etc by email. Make sure you have dance@inspirebellydance.com.au in your address book; and if necessary, set up a filter to ensure our emails never disappear into your Spam box.

What should I wear/bring?

Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that doesn't restrict your movement. Dance pants, gym pants, yoga pants or leggings are recommended for the bottom half so that the teacher can see what your legs and knees are doing. Avoid jeans and skirts. For the top half, t-shirts or singlets - you don't have to bare your tummy! In colder seasons, have some layers handy.

  • For bellydance: On your hips, a colourful scarf can help you get in the mood and see how your hips are moving. Anything will do for starters, but if you’d like to buy a jingly coin scarf, we have some available in class. Other exotic accessories are welcome. On your feet, bare feet are fine, or if you need more foot / ankle support you can wear sneakers / trainers: just make sure they don’t have too much grip. You might like to bring jiffies or ballet slippers for turns and for when it's cold. We don’t recommend just socks, as they are usually too slippery.

  • For Zumba® Gold classes, sneakers are recommended. Make sure they aren't too grippy to stop you turning and twisting your feet, especially on carpeted floors. (Get in touch if you’d like to buy some “DanceSocks” to help you move comfortably if your floors are carpeted.)

  • For Yoga, we recommend a yoga mat and some other props, but we can also help you find substitutes around the home.

  • For online classes, wearing bright and contrasting colours will help your instructor to see your movements clearly and give better feedback.

And whichever type of dance or exercise you're doing, always keep a bottle or glass of water handy.

Where can I get a hip scarf for bellydance?

A simple sash tied around the hips is fine if you prefer, and very culturally appropriate! If you want a little more, hip scarves with coins or beads - providing weight and sound - can be fun, as well as giving you feedback about how your hips are moving. We carry basic ones, and recommend our good friends at Amera’s Palace in Marrickville for the best range and quality of hip scarves. You don’t need a hip scarf to do bellydance classes, but it does make it more fun!

How do set up to I learn online?

It’s easy. We have a whole page here to help you set it up!

Connect with our social media, and share with friends

Instagram and Facebook are the places to connect for free extras! We post info and tutorials; what’s on; clips form classes and performances; and more. In our Inspire Student Community Facebook Group, you can connect with fellow students and discuss anything from car-pooling and who’s going to what event, to buying / selling pre-loved bellydance gear, asking about music, and more.

We’d also love you to share with family and friends, so they can also experience the joy of dance and movement.
